I half agree. We do not need weed killers to maintain a lawn. If one in necessary for your lot. Nor do we need to water so much tear it up and buy stuff that grows naturally in your environment. A well planned out garden even a rock garden is much nicer to look at than a patch of green. But not mowing a lawn yeah not acceptable. A old fashioned push mower is good enough and safer.

It sounds like you inspired him.
We just cut the grass, going around the primroses and wild orchids. If it goes brown in August, all the better, no mowing necessary.
I don’t think I could live in one of those HOA places.

I ripped out the front lawn at my house within weeks of buying it in 1995 so as to plant vegggies..and flowers and native shrubs. I ripped out 1/2 or more of the back lawn too. The part I kept simply gets cut (with an electric or push mower) and the grass cuttings left on top. No pesticides or fertilizers have ever been used. I don’t even aeroate the thing. In the summer, we let it turn brown. It comes back eventually. I keep it, though, because I like my little patch oif green (and yellow and red from the danelions and clover)
Our house is proof that you can keep by not keeping up a lawn (except for mowing and again, we use an electric or a pushmower. No gasoline mowers have ever lived here)We have a lawn without the poision…if some day we get so droughtlyt that the lawn doesn’t recover iafter August, we will let it go and put wood chip in or something.
