Awesome! I am currently raising 4 Isa Brown’s so can commiserate. 🙂
Julie, remember when I said that I had asked the town council if we could raise backyard chickens?…and how I said that they saw no opposition?….and how I ran and purchased a very adorable chicken coop?
Well, the Planning Commission said “NO!”. They further explained that they did not want people in trailers…in the ‘bad’ part of town…. raising chickens…they too poor an’ all.
Now, I am very clear that some people live in filth. I am very clear that many people are irresponsible while other folks are just plain suffering under extreme financial oppression. I am clear that many people do not see “Animals” as a valuable part of their world or even accept them as equals. ( I have this sneaking suspicion that they are actually more intelligent than us and are OUR keepers rather than the other way around. 😉 They don’t bomb each other, pollute the world their offspring must live in or form cults. )
Anyway, I was told to write a little letter to the Council explaining why I wanted chickens; I complied. Let me just say that I held nothing back and spoke the truth of our deteriorating situation here on planet Earth. The Council came back with a vote of 5-0 in favor of chickens.
While I will always understand that there are those who choose a life of degeneracy I also know that it is not for me or anyone else to tell others that they cannot, by their personal industry or own labor, raise the food they need to nurture their families…..no matter their social or economic standing. That is a sacred right that NO ONE has the right to monitor or revoke.
If anyone would like a copy of this letter to help inspire their Council members please feel free to ask.
Keep up the great work, Julie. 🙂
