it kind of irritate’s me sometime’s when people use apostrophe’s on word’s that don’t necessarily need them. like when you make thing’s plural, for example. oh, and also sentence fragment’s. and whom does this when they don’t know the difference between ‘who’ and ‘whom’ so they use ‘whom’ because they think it makes them sound smarter.
trust me, it really really doe’s.

Isn’t that simply poor grammar?

I totally suck at grammar. So I am so sorry if my grammatical errors irritate anyone :(. I do try my best though.

I’m with you Julie! What bothers me most is that French is my native tongue yet I find myself correcting spelling and grammar mistakes of native english speakers quite often, very irritating!

It astounds me that people do NOT seem to know the difference between “your” and “you’re” and “there” and “their” etc ….. things like this are among my pet peeves. I also find it appalling – to listen to someone telling of an experience that they had yesterday {a week ago, a month ago, ten years ago} – but they tell it in mixed tenses … some being present tense, some past tense and a bit of future tense thrown in as well. Then there are all of the sentences ending in prepositions. Do they NOT teach diagramming sentences in school anymore? Oh, yeah, they stopped doing that eons ago. *sigh* The English language is being butchered …………. especially with the additions of Spanglish and other assorted assundry things like that!

Would this be a good time to mention capitalizing the first letter in every sentence?

Alright guys. Rather than bitch, throw out a few simple guidelines as comments (for your pet peeves) for the brave ones who are willing to risk writing!! ‘texting’ is the current means of communication. they seem to be full of silly LOLs which I still read as ‘little old lady’, and now that I am one, I can interpret anything any way I wish, a blessing amongst the barbarisms in the decline of a culture. Our strength will be in our values, our vision, our caring. Keep communicating, in whatever way, and encourage more to do the same. Lots of Love

Or maybe the English language is growing and adapting, getting more diverse and interesting . . .
Maybe it’s nice that language is so fluid and adaptable that you can put a preposition in a variety of places, and still communicate a valid point.

Ah — but Hemmy, ” listen to someone telling of an experience that they had?” M’dear, SOMEONE is singular! I am the hated English Police, just as p-o-ed as all of you above and below. But I blame Miss Jane Sluss at the Lotspeich School in Cincinnati, my WONDERFUL 5th grade teacher, and the whole staff at Tudor Hall in Indianapolis. Btw — we English police make plenty of errors too!

@Hemmy –
I know many of you were taught that you shouldn’t end a sentence with a preposition, but it’s a myth.

Do you know what bothers me? It makes for a very difficult read when people don’t use capital letters when they type. If there is time italicize or highlight words, there is time to hit a shift key. One might think it’s artsy; I think it’s too annoying to read.
