lots of people seem to want to know if anyone from city government has contacted me since this whole debacle has blown up. the short answer is: no.

the more complete answer is that i think it’s funny they ask. why would someone from the city try to contact me? i don’t know the mayor, or anyone on city council, or in fact anyone who works for the city at all- with the obvious exception of the few people i spoke to about the garden before and during its construction.

someone from the city council was apparently quite put out that i didn’t call him early on. that’s uber-weird, since i didn’t even know his name  until someone on the blog sent me a copy of his response to a letter they sent…

the mayor doesn’t know me from anyone. i think if we passed each other in a grocery store, neither one of us would recognize the other. he was never involved, as far as i know, until a reporter got him to grant an interview and he said some strange conspiracy stuff about my lawyer.

the prosecutor (who as it turns out was actually the prosecutor’s son- so i actually confessed a crush on the wrong person- oops!) doesn’t know me. thankfully, i have never had to be prosecuted before. but he seemed to be pretty willing to go after me. i don’t really envision him (or his father!) stopping by for a cup of tea and a chat, but i guess you never know.

i used to be a teen volunteer for the city of oak park (ha! more potential dirt they can dig up on me…), and i knew the recreation director. but that was approximately 8,000 years ago…

the clerk was really nice when i went to get the right dog licenses, but  i hardly think that rises to the status of new BFF.

so, it leaves me wondering- who should contact me and why? and how come other people seem to think that is just to be expected, but i can’t fathom why they would? and how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? the world may never know…

what i do know is that i haven’t talked to anyone from the maintenance man on up to the mayor.

but i think i’ve spoken to the next mayor, and i am liking her a whole lot …
