They totally look like a couple of hardened criminals. Or something. (j/k). What a couple of cuties! =)
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:40:42
Goodness, awful “ruff” looking characters:) lol
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:42:23
Those are sure some rough looking customers, yessiree! Glad you’ve been able to return them to being law-abiding community members. (Love the flags!)
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:43:46
Goodness, awful “ruff” looking characters there:) lol
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:44:25
Look at those evil, hardened criminals. Tsk tsk tsk.
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:45:18
yep, “ruff” looking characters there all right, lol.
the problem child
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:46:03
Definitely dangerous. To the pound with those miscreants!
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:48:46
They are too cute! Gotta throw them in jail!
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:52:23
Awwww what precious babies…. Look loved and well taken care of too…..:)
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:52:57
OMG, KISS face criminal creatures. I’m staying tuned. Hey – if your little felons get caught up in the criminal justice system, AND, they become adoptable, I’ll go for it and bring ’em STRAIGHT back to you.RIGHT where they SHOULD be. GEEZ! Does the madness never end????? Marsha
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:54:18
Oh yes, they look like hardened criminals! I have followed your story. It has many similarities with a story from here in Florida. There is an older woman in West Palm Beach, Fl., who is being sued for sitting in her own garage. She invites friends in and some busy body has decided that she is using her garage as “living space”. Good luck! I am a dog groomer and my dogs have not had a rabies vaccine or license in years, the license is purely to generate income for the municipal government.
Jul 18, 2011 @ 21:59:49
Oh my gosh, too cute!
Jul 18, 2011 @ 22:00:21
Dying here, those dogs shots are so cute! Oak Park is mighty lucky to have you and your family!
Good for you for stepping back and catching your cosmic center. You’ve put yourself on an official “time out” — good for you! I suspect you’ll find you recharge faster than you think, but you’ll know when you’re ready to “step back in” again.
It’s not easy to handle the media and legal onslaught you’ve had. Maybe that was what was required at the time. Now it’s a different time. You can move forward still involved, but more selectively. If I may be so bold, why don’t you make up a rallying cry for yourself, something you can compare each opportunity (or new hurdle) against, to see if it fits. Something like “Yard freedom and good food!” or “Family and community in balance!” Anyway, hope that helps. Love Love Love your blog!

Better change the name of your schtick to “Oak Park hates vegetables and cute dogs”

Oh my yes. Quite the subversive element you are harboring in your home. They are just so menacing looking. Yea, for total sweeties.
Jul 18, 2011 @ 22:19:23
I love the flags! What are their names?
Jul 18, 2011 @ 22:20:17
Charmers! Thieves! My heart! Bring that back, you scoundrels! Sorry, Julie. Your dogs are complete little thieves and I demand the immediate return of my heart.
Jul 18, 2011 @ 22:26:48
I just returned from Oak Park’s City Council meeting, and am appalled at the behavior of most of the Council. Fortunately, the meeting was recorded on public-access television. All I can say is, I certainly won’t be voting for these bozos in the fall.
I won’t quote from memory, but at least one city official admitted to deleting most of the emails received from concerned citizens, calling it “spam”.
Another said that Julie had “trashed” her property (or something to that effect – please don’t quote me!) and that she had not contacted the city before growing the garden – to which a number of people (yours truly included) said, “That’s a lie!”
Then the Council invented a new “rule” out of thin air requiring citizens to ask the *Council* about any landscaping concerns.
Jul 18, 2011 @ 22:27:42
To me they look like adolescent puppies. You could not have been much over the deadline for registering them, and with everything else happening in your life it is certainly understandable that you forgot.
Jul 18, 2011 @ 22:59:45
Clearly a couple of tough hombres! Two sweeties. Glad to see your neighbors are attending council meetings. Goodness, what do they put in the water in Oak Park! Time for some new blood.
Jul 18, 2011 @ 23:22:00
don’t feel too worried about it. In my mom’s town, if you’re late getting your dog’s license it’s a mandatory court appearance. You show up, say yes sir/mam a couple times, pay your fine (or show receipt that you’ve already paid) and go on your way. It’s the stupidest thing ever and is basically the towns stupid way of collecting some extra cash for the court fee.
Jul 18, 2011 @ 23:34:06
This may be instructive… shortly into the vid you will see the interpretation of “sustainable” as actually meaning “acceptable.” Sound familiar?
Jul 18, 2011 @ 23:43:34
holy moly- do you know if there is a way we could see this without having cable? is it taped or something? how many people were there? thanks for having my back, by the way!!!
Jul 18, 2011 @ 23:44:42
Hmmm….me thinks that the afore mentioned hardened criminals need a blog of their own. Other such miscreants need to be made aware of the malicious PERsecution that befalls scofflaws such as themselves.
Seriously, this has moved beyond the ridiculous and entered the realm of the absurd. Good luck, Julie.
Jul 18, 2011 @ 23:53:09
awwww- us too!
Jul 18, 2011 @ 23:53:59
the flags don’t have names, but the dogs are dakota (husky) and sophie (mixed breed- a nice way of saying ‘mutt’). 😉
Jul 18, 2011 @ 23:55:00
yep- they might one day wag their tails hard enough to cause damage. or even try to lick someone to death!! : !
Jul 18, 2011 @ 23:55:32
ya- i’ll run that by the bass advisory board 😉
Jul 18, 2011 @ 23:56:22
It was my pleasure to attend, Julie. I’m right now trying to see if someone with cable can record the meeting once it airs later this week.
You won’t believe the things that were said, and let me tell you something – it took a lot for me to keep my mouth shut, but when the councilman outright lied about you I was COMPELLED to call him a liar. And I wasn’t the only one who did.
Jul 18, 2011 @ 23:56:36
thanks for loving the blog! as far as a slogan, i think the blog readers are gonna have to handle that- my brain is pretty fried! -julie

First of all, your dogs are adorable and I’m getting that yearning in my heart for another dog–dangerous ground 😉
Secondly, I’m glad your migraines have gone on hiatus. Hopefully for a long long time. Your thoughts on taking time for yourself and your family are spot on.
Thirdly, this is as good a place as any for one of those ideas I had and mentioned in the music thread. With all due respect to Dakota and Sophie, here are….(yeah, I like elipses too)

10. Mr. Greenjeans (Captain Kangaroo)
9. Chauncey Gardener (Being There)

That just makes chills run up my spine. It also makes me even more sure that they are going to change the ordinance behind closed doors and THEN go after you again…not a nice thought but then I never really have trusted politicians.
Glad you are taking a break, reconnecting with what and who really matters in life. Enjoy!!
*hugs* to the family, my thoughts are with you
Jul 19, 2011 @ 02:04:05
Do those pups have their Licker License?!
Jul 19, 2011 @ 07:37:03
Lol. Our emails spam. Wait until they receive faxes and letters. I hate stupid people.
Jul 19, 2011 @ 09:59:36
don’t give oak park any ideas- that might be next! LOL
Jul 19, 2011 @ 10:01:16
hahahaha- thanks for the laugh! -julie
Jul 19, 2011 @ 10:39:21
why should the madness end when the uninformed and compliant Citizenry go along with it? Going along with corruption just makes its roots grow deeper!
The job of City Government, is governing THE CITY and those SUBJECT TO the City. People who take care of their own PRIVATE business, are not subject to City Codes that are founded in Commercial Law and are in fact COMMERCIAL CODES, which is the nature or system of law wherein ALL LICENSING IS BASED.
If you’re not engaged in a commercially regulated activity and your dogs are not in commerce, and your property is not in commerce, THE MADNESS would be in SUBJECTING YOURSELF TO COMMERCIAL CODES.

POST IT on You Tube!
Jul 19, 2011 @ 10:48:41
It doesn’t really matter what changes the City makes to its Ordinances if they do NOT APPLY to you. What matters is whether you know they do not apply to you and how to easily put the City on Notice that you know, so that you can hold them accountable should they proceed against you after having been duly notified and given the opportunity to correct THEIR mistake!
Jul 19, 2011 @ 10:55:39
I beg to disagree. The stupidest thing ever is to JOIN the City’s action against YOU when what you should be doing is correcting them. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to let them know that you are NOT SUBJECT TO their Ordinances if they do NOT APPLY to you. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to know they do not apply to you and YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to put them on Notice that you know, so that you can hold them accountable should they proceed against you after having been duly notified and given the opportunity to correct THEIR mistake!

looks like we may only have a short time before World Government is officially accepted and the US Constitution no longer guarantees the Law for the People of the USA. (no wonder the federal Property Maintenance Code is already labeled the INTERNATIONAL PMC… )

Certified, return receipt requested. Might cost you a couple of bucks, but well worth the effort. 🙂
Jul 21, 2011 @ 21:03:00
I dont know about OP, but here the County Council must allow input from citizens before approving anything (we usually complain it takes them so long to get anything done!) Someone might want to check and see if your city council can do what they did legally.
I know your poor lawyer is getting overrun but the more his name is out there, it’s all good publicity for him and free at that!
