Anti-Miscegenation laws. It used to be illegal for people of different races to marry each other. I guess it made a few people mad (kind of like my garden? although why people are coming out of the woodwork now to be mad is beyond me. Maybe the city is making that up?). It finally was stopped by a case that I think was called Loving v. Virginia- check it out.

Restrictive Covenants. These used to limit who you were able to sell your house to. Lots of documents still actually have these clauses- you may not sell your house to a Jew, or you promise not to ever sell to a Black family. Check out your mortgage paperwork; you might be surprised. It’s there but it’s not enforced. Kind of creepy…

Don’t even get me started on poll taxes, literacy tests, and other intimidation tactics that were used to scare Black people away from exercising their Constitutional right to vote. Oh, and let’s not forget Jim Crow Laws…

Anti- Women’s rights? Of course. And we all know about that.

Anti- ___________________________ ( You can fill in the blank because there have been laws anti-someone from time immemorial).

I could go on and on, but my point here is that the few ignoramouses don’t get to win. Even if they have an agenda and political clout, they don’t get to win. People in positions of power or authority who abuse that power don’t get to win.

Sometimes it takes a while, but Right triumphs Might. At least in a just society…
