but wouldn’t it be great if it was?
wouldn’t it be great if this was my new front yard garden? or even my back yard garden?
but it’s still cool, because it’s a community garden. this photo is from the KGI website (their link is on the side of my blog, cuz i’m so techy!).
i’m feeling so inspired to plant!!!!!!!
(but dakota’s feeling equally inspired to dig!!!!!!!!!!!) :(
so what’s an underworked renegade gardener to do???????
p.s.- when i just did spellcheck on this post, ‘underworked’ came up as ‘underworld’ or ‘undercooked’. gotta love that!

Neat is indeed the word. I’m sure they swept it up before taking the picture but gee whiz, my kitchen isn’t that clean.

I saw a photo (somewhere on Facebook) of a ‘fence’ garden. THey’d built planter boxes of varying depths and widths and then attached them, with beefed up support of course, to their wooden fence. I liked the idea – though I don’t happen to have a wooden fence – because it looked like something the dogs couldn’t get to, so no digging. I’m still looking at my walled yard and contemplating if there’s a spot that I could make it work on. Maybe under the big shady tree I could get lettuce to grow…hmmmmm.

Curious, do you know what your old front yard looks like now? Seeing these raised beds reminds me of it. This year I did the most randon front yard gardening, I just bunched seeds in between my other plants…some are coming up, others not – I’m just going along for the surprise of what I get.

pretty much before the ink was dry on the contract the new owners had already laid down sod and liberally applied pesticides and assorted other chemicals to assure a perfect oak park-worthy lawn. this photo also makes me nostalgic for our former garden, and makes me glad there are photos scattered around the internet- because our old garden now lives only in our dreams… good luck with yours!

Here’s something from today’s Vancouver Sun showing how your neighbors to your north in BC are replacing front lawns with urban gardens because of grub infestation. Lemonade out of lemons!
